How to save TikTok videos on iPhone

Start with TikTok's own save option when it is available. For an authorized video downloaded through a browser, locate the file before looking in Photos.

Browser instructions are based on the official documentation linked below. Menu labels can vary by browser and device.

Check the save option in TikTok

Open the video in TikTok, select Share, then use Save video if it is offered. TikTok says this option depends on the creator allowing downloads. If it is absent, do not treat that as an iPhone storage problem.

Save content you own or have permission to keep. If you need your own recording for editing, use the original from your device when possible; a posted copy may differ from the file you created.

Understand the browser download steps

These steps apply to a real file returned by a supported tool. Wait for the browser transfer to finish, then check the saved file.

  1. Copy the TikTok video link. A username or profile address does not identify the video you want.
  2. On a working service, check the returned file type and choose the intended video output. Do not assume that an audio-only option contains pictures.
  3. Follow the browser's actual save prompt if one appears. Leave the transfer time to finish rather than repeatedly pressing the same button.
  4. Open the saved file and check the picture, duration and sound. A result card or a playing web preview is not proof that a complete file is stored on your phone.

Find a file downloaded with Safari

After a Safari download, use the Downloads button beside the search field to view downloads. Apple also directs users to Files, then Browse, iCloud Drive and Downloads. This is a useful starting point when a file seems to be missing.

Safari's download destination can be changed. In Settings, open Apps, Safari and Downloads to check whether it uses iCloud Drive, On My iPhone or another location. Follow the setting on your own phone rather than assuming every download goes to iCloud.

Understand Files and Photos

First confirm that the file exists in its download location. Do not assume that a browser download automatically becomes an item in your photo library. Apple explains that apps can offer their own Save controls for received photos and videos; the available action depends on the app.

If your app offers a way to save the video to Photos, use that action and then confirm the new library item. If it does not, keep the working file in Files while checking supported options. Renaming the extension is not a way to make an incompatible file work.

If the file is missing or will not play

First, look for a completed entry in the browser's download list. If no transfer began, there may be no file to search for. If it stopped partway through, investigate that failure before importing anything into Photos.

For an actual saved video with no sound, compare it with the source and check the file option you chose. Do not delete a useful original while investigating a downloaded copy. The troubleshooting guide separates input errors, unavailable results and file problems.

Good questions, clear answers

Why is the video in Files but not Photos?

You may have saved a browser file without adding it to the photo library. Verify the file first, then use a supported save or import action offered by your app.

What if my download does not start?

Read the result message first. Wait if a request limit is shown, or check the link again if file options expired. A saved file should appear in your browser’s download list. Device-specific saving behavior still needs checking on your phone or computer.

Is a missing Save video option a Safari error?

Not necessarily. The save option inside TikTok and a browser's file-saving controls are different. Check which action is missing before changing device settings.
